Director Nithilan Saminathan has gained widespread recognition due to the success of his recent film Maharaja, which stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. Meanwhile, a video snippet featuring legendary actor Kamal Haasan praising the filmmaker nearly eleven years ago is doing the rounds on social media.

In the viral video, Kamal praises Nithilan's short film Punnagai Vaanginaal Kanneer Elavasam and expresses hope in Nithilan despite his inexperience in filmmaking. Sharing the same video on his Twitter handle, Nithilan wrote, " Thanks for believing in me, Kamal Haasan sir. Whenever I see this.. it gives me hope and motivation" (sic).

Maharaja marks Nithilan's sophomore outing as the first being the 2017 film Kurangu Bommai.

Maharaja stars an ensemble cast including Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj in pivotal roles, along with Abhirami, Arul Doss, Munishkanth, Boys Manikandan, Singam Puli, Bharathiraja, Vinod Sagar, and PL Thenappan.

The film is jointly produced by Sudhan Sundaram's Passion Studios and Jagdish Palanisamy's The Route banners. Maharaja's technical crew comprises cinematographer Dinesh Purushothaman, music composer Ajaneesh Loknath, and editor Philomin Raj.
