Rachel Zegler to play Snow White in Disney's live-action adaptation

Rachel Zegler, who is on the news for her upcoming breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s retelling of West Side Story, has found her next big project. The actor is all set to star as Snow White in Disney's live-action adaptation.

The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cartoon was released in 1938. It was based on Brothers Grimm's fairytale and the inaugural feature kickstarted Disney's slate of animated features. The live-action adaptation, set to be directed by Marc Webb, will expand upon the story and music from the original.

The movie will have new songs written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar- and Tony-winning duo behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen.

Produced by Marc Platt, the production is expected to start in 2022.

Meanwhile, the live-action The Little Mermaid movie is also in development at Disney, with Halle Bailey set to play Ariel

Apart from West Side Story adaptation in which she stars opposite Ansel Elgort and Rita Moreno, Zegler also has DC.’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods coming up.
