Ottamuri Velicham nominated at New York Indian Film Festival

Rahul Riji Nair's debut film, which deals with the subject of marital rape, has been nominated in three categories namely, Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress

Director Rahul Riji Nair's debut film Ottamuri Velicham is among the list of Indian films nominated at this year's New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF). The film has been nominated in three categories namely, Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress.

In the Best film category, Ottamuri Velicham will be competing against four other critically acclaimed Indian films -- Take Off, Nude, Balekempa, and Juze.

In the Best Director category, Rahul Riji will be competing against Atanu Ghost (Mayurakshi), Ere Gowda (Balekepma), Chezhian Ra (To-Let), and Nishil Sheth (Bhasmasur).

In the Best Actress category, the film's female lead Vinitha Koshy will be competing against Sushama Deshpande (Ajji), Kalyani Mulay (Nude), Parvathy (Take Off), and Bindu Raxidi (Paddayi).

The film, which deals with the subject of marital rape, recently won four Kerala State Film Awards including Best Film and Best Actress.

NYIFF is among the oldest and most revered film festivals of the world, created with the intention of providing a platform for good Indian films in the US and enlightening North Americans about the Indian way of life. The festival, which is the flagship event of the Indo-American Arts Council, begins on May 7 and ends on May 12.

Ottamuri Velicham will be screened on May 11. The opening film is Nude and closing film Omerta
