‘Vaira is an entertainer, don’t go by A-rating’

Vaira, directed by Navarasan who also plays the lead in the movie, is set to compete with four other films releasing this week. But, the actor-director is confident of his suspense thriller because it is “an untold revenge story with a touch of horror,” he adds, “This is based on a real-life story, fictionalised in parts for cinematic purposes. My film is set around a girl who is confused whether to choose love or her career, which becomes the central thread in the story.”

However, Navarsan is not happy with the verdict given by the Censor Board, and says that he “felt helpless” when he faced it. “When they could certify my first film Rakshasi, which was also a horror movie, U/A, I don’t quite understand why an A-rating was given for this suspense thriller. In fact, I tried my best to explain my side of the story to them, but they didn’t pay any heed to it. Now I can only request the audience not to be taken in by the rating and instead watch the movie for entertainment,” he says.

Meanwhile, the remake rights of Vaira have been sold and in all likelihood there will be Tamil and Telugu remakes soon. The film has a running time of 1 hour 47 minutes, and features Priyanka Malnad in the lead with Tabla Nani, Kempegowda and Ajay also part of the cast.
