The Sanskrit verse 'Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwara' says that a teacher removes darkness and enlightens students' lives.  Director Pramod Chakravarthi’s Drona takes this verse as its crux and tells us an inspiring tale. 

The story revolves around the issues in government schools and director Pramod Chakravarthy beautifully blends reality with fiction. It’s a well-timed project considering its release during the exam season. The film is more or less inspired by the Tamil drama, Saattai. But Shivarajkumar adds his own touch to the character. He aces the role of Physics teacher Guru, who is newly transferred to a government school in Nelamangala. The character believes that there would be no difference between a student studying in a government and private school, provided they get the best education and encouragement from teachers.

After witnessing how teachers fail at their job by misusing funds, manipulating the system, and sexually harassing girls, a strong intent develops within him to change things at the school. Guru brings in a lot of reform but is faced with many hurdles, especially from the assistant headmaster, Raghu (Rangyana Raghu). How Guru transforms into a crusader and regularises the education system, brings enlightenment among teachers and students, while stressing on the importance of cultural and sports activities forms the crux of Drona. It’s a film that carries a strong message for teachers and students alike.

Shivarajkumar, known as a mass star and for his style of handling the machete, effortlessly fits into the character of a teacher in Drona and his charm remains intact. He is well-supported by Rangayana Raghu, Ravi Kishen, and Iniya, who plays his wife. This role of Shivanna will likely remind viewers of his father Dr Rajkumar's iconic roles, where the legendary star fought against social evils.

Drona is a film that should be watched by parents along with their children, and teachers along with their students, for a better understanding of the education system as well as teacher-student bonding.
