Every once in a while comes a film which proves the weirdness of man’s imagination; he cannot make an ant, yet he makes gods in dozens. With 3000, debutant Rabbuni Keerthi has raised the bar for weirdness. He has managed to make demons in dozens, with a generous amount of unintentional humour in scenes which are meant to earnestly scare.

With a title like 3000, director and actor Keerthi’s attempt at horror did generate curiosity, but right from the word go it tires the audience.

The story is about a filmmaker, Keerthi (Rabbuni Keerthi), who along with a few friends and a Church Father, visits an island in Mangaluru. Keerthi, who has visited the place and had an unusual experience, is keen that his friends too experience it. They are haunted by evil spirits, and later, the priest realises that while they are alive, their human bodies are possessed by demons. How the priest takes the help of god through prayers, and gets rid of the evil spirits forms the rest of the plot.

3000 claims to be based on a real life incident, but it fails to live up to the expectations. The director disappoints fans of the horror genre especially, making them laugh at the mediocrity and immature understanding of what goes into making a film about evil spirits. The second half is more like a documentary, showcasing how a priest helps the victims release the demon possessing them by performing an exorcism.

The actors, who are all newcomers, have nothing to show and fail to make an impression. As for the technical aspects, the cameraman Manu Krishnan has come up with a few good shots and music director Clarence Allen Crasta has tried to infuse some suspense with his background score. But, it's tough to deal with a subject like exorcism on a limited budget, and it shows. For the debutant Keerthi, all we can say is -- better luck next time.
