With nearly a week left for the release of Scene, Suriya's 47th outing, the film's director, Jithu Madhavan, is now busy promoting the film with interviews. In a recent conversation, the Aavesham filmmaker revealed his thought process behind casting Naslen as the antagonist opposite Suriya's protagonist.
Jithu's third directorial and Tamil debut, Scene, stars Suriya as DSP Inbaraj and Nazriya as Maya. Naslen plays a psychopath, Eshwaran, in the film, also marking his Tamil debut. Rajpriyan, Anandraj, and Lal also star in pivotal roles in the upcoming film.
On what he was looking for while searching for Scene's villain, Jithu told Galatta Plus, "I was actually looking for a new face to play the villain in Scene. I needed someone who you would think is the last to commit a gruesome crime. Suddenly Naslen came to my mind. Him being the antagonist is not a surprise element, but when he commits the crime, the audience will be excited to see him do something like this."
It was not very easy to get Naslen on board, the director adds. "Naslen was the next big thing — Premalu was a hit and he is doing lead roles now — so I doubted whether he would accept this role. He liked it after the narration, but there was some date confusion. We planned the schedule according to his dates."
Music director Sushin Shyam, who has previously composed for Jithu's Romancham and Aavesham, is making his Tamil debut with Scene. Produced by Suriya and his wife, Jyotika, through their Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment banners, the upcoming film's technical team also includes cinematographer Vineeth Augustian, editor Ajmal Sabu, production designer Ashwini Kale, art director A Rajesh, and stunt choreographer Chethan D’Souza. The film will open in theatres alongside Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2 and Ranbir Kapoor-Sai Pallavi's Ramayana: Part 1.
