The final film in the Conjuring world is finally coming to the OTT space. The Conjuring: Last Rites, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren will be available to watch on JioHotstar from February 13 onwards. The film, which was released in theatres in September, is coming to streaming after a five-month-long gap. Additionally, the supernatural horror is also available on Prime Video for rent. Upon release, the film, which is based on the real-life Smurl haunting case, was received with positive and mixed reviews by critics and audiences. It was commercially successful, earning $494.7 million, becoming the highest-grossing film in the series.
Our CE review of the film read, "Usually, the families that Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) help act as a reminder of the Warrens' love for each other. The family dynamics are deeply explored, which helps the audience to root for the members of that family. But Last Rites uses the Smurls only to elevate the stakes for the Warrens. The demonic entity attacks the family. The Warrens enter the picture. The Warrens are left to deal with the entity as it attacks the Smurls. The description can seem like an oversimplification, but like the film, the Smurls are only an afterthought here."
Ben Hardy, Mia Tomlinson, Tony Spera, Steve Coulter, Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton and Shannon Kook also star in The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is directed by Michael Chaves. Screenwriters David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, along with James Wan have written the script for the film.
Chaves has previously helmed 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and the 2023 Conjuring spinoff The Nun II. Last Rites is the fourth direct Conjuring film, and the ninth one in the Conjuring universe.
Directed by James Wan and produced by Peter Safran, 2013’s The Conjuring established the franchise’s mythology, following paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. James Wan and Peter Safran, who have produced several previous Conjuring films, return as producers for The Last Rites.
The success of The Conjuring led to several spin-offs and sequels. In addition to the original film, there are The Conjuring 2 (2016) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). The Annabelle doll also inspired three films: Annabelle (2014), its prequel Annabelle: Creation (2017), and a sequel, Annabelle Comes Home (2019). Two films featuring the demon nun Valak have been released: The Nun (2018) and its follow-up, The Nun II (2023). Additionally, a prequel, The Conjuring: The First Communion, is set to be released on September 10, 2027.
