
After over a month of filming, actor Patrick Wilson, who plays the noted real-life paranormal investigator Ed Warren has wrapped filming his portions for the upcoming final Conjuring film The Conjuring: Last Rites. Sharing the news, actor Vera Farmiga who has starred opposite Patrick as his wife Lorraine Warren for more than a decade, said that she "bids her fake marriage adieu" as the franchise comes to a close. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 5, 2025.
Vera Farmiga posted a photo of Ed and Lorraine's wedding from The Conjuring Universe on her official Instagram handle. In her heartfelt caption, she expressed deep emotions, writing, "I got them feels today." She reflected on nearly 5000 days spent portraying the Warrens, and concluded with, "Here’s to 12 years. I cherish you," honoring her longtime co-star, Patrick Wilson. The duo have been playing the real-life couple since the 2013 film The Conjuring.
Mia Tomlinson, Ben Hardy, Shannon Kook, and Steve Coulter also star in lead roles in The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is directed by Michael Chaves. Screenwriters David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, along with James Wan have written the script for the upcoming film. Wilson and Farmiga return to the franchise as the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Chaves has previously helmed 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and the 2023 Conjuring spinoff The Nun II. Last Rites is the fourth direct Conjuring film, and the ninth one in the Conjuring universe.
Directed by James Wan and produced by Peter Safran, 2013’s The Conjuring established the franchise’s mythology, following paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. James Wan and Peter Safran, who have produced several previous Conjuring films, return as producers for The Last Rites.
The success of The Conjuring led to several spin-offs and sequels. In addition to the original film, there are The Conjuring 2 (2016) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). The Annabelle doll also inspired three films: Annabelle (2014), its prequel Annabelle: Creation (2017), and a sequel, Annabelle Comes Home (2019). Two films featuring the demon nun Valak have been released: The Nun (2018) and its follow-up, The Nun II (2023). Additionally, a new Conjuring TV series is in the works at Max which will also be executive produced by Peter Safran.
