Mohanlal has yet another entry in the 200 crore club. Earlier this Thursday, the actor revealed through his social media that Drishyam 3 has grossed 200 crore from theatres worldwide in seven days of its release. "Three films. Three chapters. One unbroken bond. Thank you for walking with Georgekutty and family," read the caption for the announcement.
This is the first film in the Drishyam franchise to gross 200 crore. Earlier, Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan and Thudarum also entered the 200-crore club. Earlier, when Drishyam 3 crossed the 100-crore mark, it reportedly meant that the superstar's own Pulimurugan went out of the list of the ten highest-grossing films in Malayalam. It is worth noting that Pulimurugan is considered the first film from the industry to gross over 100 crore from theatres worldwide.
Coming back to the third instalment in the Drishyam franchise, the film opened in theatres to mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics. While some questioned the relevance of the third part, the film has eventually overcome all the negativity and registered the massive collection of 200 crore.
With the release of the much-awaited Kattalan this Thursday, it remains to be seen how long the Mohanlal starrer, directed by Jeethu Joseph, will continue its momentum at the box office. Given the positive reviews, the franchise's popularity, and the Mohanlal factor, it has not had a major dip in collection in the last two days. According to the tracker Sacnilk, the Drishyam 3 box office collection dropped from 13.85 crore on Sunday to 7.70 crore on Monday. However, since then, the collection has touched the seven crore mark.
The film picks up the story from where it left off in the second instalment, which first released on OTT in 2021 before it recently had its theatrical debut. The film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Siddique, and Asha Sharath, among others.
