Director Jeethu Joseph has confirmed that Mohanlal's much-anticipated Drishyam 3 will release in theatres in April, while cautioning audiences against approaching the film with heightened expectations. Speaking at the inauguration of the Centre for Advanced Uro-Oncology at Rajagiri Hospital, Jeethu responded to comments by one of the faculty members, who said he was waiting eagerly for the third instalment of the popular franchise. The director used the occasion to reflect on both the franchise and its wider resonance.
“Drishyam is a film that has influenced many people, and it carries a great weight of its own,” Jeethu said. “That is why I would say one should watch the film [Drishyam 3] in theatres without big expectations. The film can be seen in the first week of April, and the official release announcement will be made soon.”
The Drishyam franchise began in 2013 with the story of Georgekutty, a cable television operator who goes to extraordinary lengths to protect his family after a crime. The sequel, Drishyam 2 (2021), continued the narrative years later, showing how the past continues to shadow Georgekutty and his family. The films have since been remade in several Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, as well as in Chinese, making the series one of the most widely adapted Indian film franchises.
Jeethu has earlier said that Drishyam 3 will serve as a natural progression in Georgekutty’s journey, moving away from the tightly wound thriller structure of the second instalment. The Hindi version of Drishyam 3 has already been announced for release on October 2, 2026.
During the same interaction, Jeethu also spoke about his upcoming release, headlined by Biju Menon and Joju George. “My other film, Valathu Vashathe Kallan, is releasing on January 30,” he said, adding, “I am confident it will be a good film.”
