Jude Anthany Joseph is gearing up for the release of Thudakkam, his first release after 2018, his 2023 disaster film-survival thriller. Starring Vismaya Mohanlal, Aashish Joe Antony, and Mohanlal, among others, the film is set for an August 07 release in theatres. Ahead of its release, Jude spoke about the film, his lead actor, Mohanlal's daughter Vismaya, and more.

Interestingly, Jude Anthany Joseph had other screenplays in mind before starting work on Thudakkam. In a conversation with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker said that he was in the process of writing one screenplay for a Tamil film with Sivakarthikeyan and another with Ayushmann Khurrana in Hindi.

"I would not say those were bigger films, but I was planning projects with scales comparable to 2018," Jude said. The director also revealed that he was thinking about a film around the story of the Kerala ship MV Kairali that disappeared in the late 1970s.

"I was doing so many things, although nothing was completed. Then, I realised that this is not the way I was doing my films," Jude shared. Explaining his comment, he said that before 2018's release, he would complete one film, wait for its release and "enjoy the output" and only then he would consider another project.

"After 2018, what happened is that I received so many calls and options to do films, so I was planning several projects. I was not in the right mind to decide which film to start. Then, this film came to me," he said about his journey before Thudakkam.

The upcoming film marks the acting debuts of both Mohanlal's daughter Vismaya and its producer Antony Perumbavoor's son, Ashish Joe Antony.
