On Monday, we reported about director Savin SA's Vaazha II: Biopic of a Billion Bros becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film at the Kerala box office, breaking the record previously held by Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. The achievement is remarkable, especially considering the absence of recognised film stars in Vaazha 2, although it has hit filmmaker Vipin Das as a screenwriter and popular social media sensations, such as Hashir, to name one.
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, Vaazha II has grossed around 142 crore from theatres in India. As per industry estimates, it has minted around 125 crore from theatres in Kerala alone, exceeding Lokah's collection in the state.
Meanwhile, key actors and the director of Lokah appreciated the cast and crew of Vaazha 2 on the achievement. Kalyani Priyadarshan, known for her role as immortal vampire Kalliyankattu Neeli/Chandra in the superhero film, took to her Instagram Stories, shared a post about Vaazha II becoming the industry hit, and wrote, "Got to LOVE our industry. Congratulations on this incredible achievement!"
On the other hand, Lokah director Dominic Arun congratulated the film's writer Vipin Das, director Savin SA, and Telugu distributor Sahu Garapati and the rest of the crew and cast on the "remarkable achievement with newcomers".
At the same time, Chandu Salimkumar, known for his role in Lokah, also congratulated Vaazha 2 cast, Hashir, Alan, Vinayak and Ajin, on the achievement. Chandu also shared a trending reel where Hashir and his friends talk about how film industries across the world are not delivering quality cinema. At one point in the reel, Hashir says, "If I got Malayalam cinema, I would have taken it to the next level." Many have been sharing the reel, saying Hashir has lived up to his promise.
While Vaazha II has broken Lokah's collection record in Kerala, the Kalyani starrer is still the highest-grossing Malayalam film at the global box office. Going by Sacnilk data, the Savin SA directorial venture still has about 77 crore to break Lokah's all-time collection record.
