Malayalam actor Anaswara Rajan has issued a strong response to recent allegations made by director Deepu Karunakaran regarding her participation in the promotions of the delayed film Mr & Mrs Bachelor. In a public statement released on Tuesday via socia media, she expressed deep distress over "defamatory" remarks made against her in multiple media interviews.
Anaswara refuted Deepu’s claim that she refused to cooperate with promotions, stating, “I had already given an interview before the scheduled release date as part of the film’s promotions. The only online promotional interview available for this film is the one I did.” She also pointed out that she had shared posters and trailers on her social media platforms. The actor also revealed that she was never officially informed about the film’s release date after it was postponed. “Even today, I am unaware of the film’s release date,” she asserted, adding that Deepu’s public statements appeared to be an attempt to damage her career.
She further criticised the director for singling her out while avoiding mention of other actors who faced similar issues during the shoot. “By selectively dragging my name into this issue—especially when I am relatively new to the industry and a woman—it seems he assumed I would not respond.” Anaswara confirmed that she has already filed a complaint with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and is prepared to take legal action if defamatory statements continue. She also stated her willingness to participate in the film’s promotions if informed in advance.
Mr & Mrs Bachelor, headlined by Anaswara and Indrajith Sukumaran, was earlier scheduled to release on August 23 last year.
