Ahead of its theatrical release on August 1, the makers of the Arjun Ashokan-starrer Sumathi Valavu dropped the film's trailer. It marks the reunion of writer Abhilash Pillai and director Vishnu Sasi Shankar after the success of Malikappuram.

The 2-minute 12-second trailer of Sumathi Valavu opens with a nighttime scene deep in the forest, where a tree crashes onto the road, forcing a van to come to an abrupt stop. Arjun’s voiceover accompanies the visuals, explaining how everyone was too frightened to step out of the vehicle, except him. He recalls venturing a few steps ahead, only to witness the ghost of Sumathi, the spirit believed to haunt the area. It is soon shown that Arjun is narrating this eerie tale to a group of wide-eyed schoolchildren. The trailer then shifts briefly to glimpses of Arjun’s romantic interest before returning to the chilling legends surrounding Sumathi’s ghost. With a flurry of visuals designed to build suspense and induce laughter, the film promises to be an entertaining horror comedy set against a rural backdrop.

Sumathi Valavu also stars Malavika Manoj, Sidharth Bharathan, Gokul Suresh, Balu Varghese, Saiju Kurup, Sshivada, Devanandha, Sreepath Yan, Joohi Jayakumar, Jasnya K Jayadeesh, Gopika Anil and Shravan Mukesh, among others. On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Shankar P V, editing by Shafique Muhamed Ali and music by Ranjin Raj. It is produced by Gokulam Gopalan and Murali Kunnumpurath under the banners of Sree Gokulam Movies and Waterman Films LLP, respectively.
