Veteran actor-filmmaker-choreographer Prabhudheva has joined the cast of Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer, the upcoming Malayalam fantasy film. It marks his return to Malayalam cinema 13 years after the Santhosh Sivan-directorial Urumi. The makers of Kathanar announced the news by sharing photos of Prabhudheva being welcomed to the team by lead actor Jayasurya, producer Gokulam Gopalan and executive producer Krishnamoorthy.

Kathanar, directed by Home-fame Rojin Thomas, is based on the tales of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a Kerala priest who was believed to possess supernatural powers. While Jayasurya plays Kathanar's role, the film has Anushka Shetty in another prominent role. The latter, who is making her Malayalam debut, started shooting for the film earlier this month.

Scripted by R Ramanand, Kathanar is planned as a pan India project with most of it shot using virtual production technology. The film has Neil D Cunha as the cinematographer, Jungjin Park as the action choreographer, and Rahul Subrahmanian Unni as the music director.

Prabhudheva's upcoming films include The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), the much-hyped Tamil film, starring Vijay. Though Prabhudheva directed Vijay in films like Pokkiri, Villu, this is the first time the duo is acting together. The Venkat Prabhu-directorial is eyeing a July release.
