Veteran Malayalam actor Siddique resigned from his position as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), citing allegations of sexual abuse against him. Reportedly, Siddique submitted a resignation letter to AMMA president and actor Mohanlal on Sunday morning.

Siddique, who assumed the role of general secretary just two months ago following the resignation of Edavela Babu, stated that he was stepping down in response to the allegations. Actor Revathy Sampath had accused Siddique of sexually abusing her, claims she first made in 2019. Revathy recently reiterated her allegations, claiming that Siddique had contacted her in 2016 under the pretext of discussing a film project when she was 21 years old.

According to Revathy, Siddique invited her to Hotel Mascot, ostensibly to discuss the film offer, but then made inappropriate advances. She recounted that Siddique had explicitly expressed his sexual desires and shocked her with his demands.

This resignation follows mounting scrutiny of AMMA after the release of the Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread violence and discrimination against women in the Malayalam film industry. The report has prompted several women in the industry to come forward with their experiences of abuse and discrimination.
