Actor Ranveer Singh made a visit to the Chamundeshwari Temple atop Mysuru’s Chamundi Hills on Tuesday morning, offering special prayers in connection with the controversy surrounding his mimicry of the Daiva act from the Kantara franchise. The visit came as part of a direction issued by the Karnataka High Court while disposing of the case filed against the actor.
The controversy dates back to November 30, 2025, during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. While speaking about Kannada cinema and praising Kantara and actor-director Rishab Shetty, Ranveer recreated the film’s well-known Daiva performance on stage. The act, which referenced the Bhoota Kola tradition of coastal Karnataka, soon drew criticism from sections of Kannada audiences and cultural groups who felt a sacred ritual had been mocked.
The video spread quickly on social media, triggering widespread debate and leading to an FIR against the actor. What began as a stage moment at the film festival soon turned into a legal and cultural controversy.
Following the backlash, Ranveer issued an unconditional apology and later submitted a revised affidavit before the Karnataka High Court, stating that he had never intended to hurt religious beliefs or local traditions. Taking note of his apology, the court directed him in April to visit Mysuru’s Chamundeshwari Temple and offer prayers within four weeks before formally closing the matter.
In keeping with that order, Ranveer reportedly travelled directly from Mumbai to Mysuru, early on Tuesday. Away from public attention, and wearing a mask, he entered the temple and offered special prayers before Goddess Chamundeshwari. Photographs of the actor standing with folded hands inside the temple precincts have since gone viral.
The temple visit also comes a day after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor over developments related to Don 3. Ranveer’s team, however, has said he remains focused on his work and upcoming projects.
