New talent Girish SM has announced his first Kannada film, titled Maha Kaaliputra. He will direct and produce the project under his banner, Tirupati Tirumala Productions. The film's title was recently launched at a small event, marking the start of the project.
Girish shared the idea behind the film, explaining that the story is meaningful to him. “I am basically a farmer, and now I have come to make a film about farmers,” says the filmmaker, pointing out that Maha Kaaliputra refers to a devotee of the goddess. “In earlier days, farmers would begin their day by praying to the goddess before heading to the fields. In the film, we show the farmer as the son of the goddess."
The director mentioned that the film carries a message about the value of farmers in society. He pointed out that farmers work with honesty and dedication, feeding the entire country with their hard work. “Today, the same farmer does not always get the respect and recognition he deserves,” Girish says, adding that the film will highlight the importance of those who work the land.
The story will also link the farmer who grows food to the soldier who protects the country. “There is a connection between the two, and audiences will see how it unfolds on screen,” he adds.
Girish says the film will show how farming has changed over time, and include elements of rural life, such as raising bulls for farming and later using them in races. The team plans to start shooting on March 15 in and around Bengaluru. The film aims to be a pan-Indian project, with actors from different language industries expected to join the cast.
Girish Gowda has written the screenplay. The makers are aiming for a Dasara release. The team is also planning to film a real village fair in Shivamogga for authenticity. The film will feature one song composed by Rahul Vastar, and Keerthan Poojari will handle cinematography.
