Actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty was among the key voices at a high-level meeting on coastal tourism development chaired by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at Vidhana Soudha on Friday. The meeting brought together legislators, industry leaders, tourism officials, and stakeholders from Karnataka's coastal belt to chart an ambitious roadmap for the region's future.

Addressing the gathering, Shivakumar stressed the need to simplify procedures for investors and create a more business-friendly environment along the coast. He directed officials to submit a report within 15 to 20 days on issues related to Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms and forest clearances, while announcing that a Cabinet meeting would soon be held in the coastal region to accelerate decision-making.

The Deputy CM highlighted the importance of showcasing Karnataka's coastal culture on a global platform while prioritising job creation and economic growth. Officials informed the meeting that 45 tourism projects worth ₹718.63 crore have already been approved under the state's tourism policy, with the potential to generate around 4,500 jobs.

During the discussion, Rishab Shetty made a strong appeal for greater recognition and support for the coast's rich folk traditions, music, and cultural heritage. He also urged the government to create better infrastructure and incentives for film shootings, noting that improved facilities would benefit the film industries of Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa.

Industry representatives also pitched for the development of heli-tourism and a single-window clearance system to streamline approvals for tourism and infrastructure projects.

The meeting underlined the government's vision of transforming Karnataka's coastline into a major tourism and investment hub while preserving its unique cultural and environmental identity.
