JP Thuminad's surprise hit Su From So, starring Shaneel Gautham, J. P. Thuminad, Sandhya Arakere, Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Panaje, Mime Ramdas and Raj B Shetty in lead roles, has finally locked an OTT release date. The Kannada horror comedy is arriving on JioHotstar on September 9, according to details on the app.

A slice-of-life comedy, Su From So has been talk of the town since it released, receiving praise from across the nation for its rooted setting and relatability. Released in theatres on July 25, the film follows a youngster trying to shake off the ghost of an old woman from a nearby village. It is set in a village linked to Someshwara and the ghost mentioned here is named Sulochana, hence the title Su From So.

Following overwhelmingly positive reviews, the film saw an increase in shows across South Indian states. This boost helped its box office collections soar past Rs 120 crore worldwide, an impressive feat for a Kannada film, especially given the stiff competition from big-ticket releases like Coolie and War 2. It is the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year and was credited for bringing thousands of audiences to theatres after the KGF films, Kantara and 777 Charlie.

The film has music by Sumedh K and cinematography by S Chandrasekaran. Beyond Karnataka, Su From So was distributed by Gangadhar. AA Films handled its release in North India, while Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films released the Malayalam version in Kerala. Internationally, Phars Films distributed the film across multiple markets. The film was backed by Raj B Shetty along with Shashidhar Shetty Baroda and Ravi Rai Kalasa.

Interestingly, the film minted a sizeable collection from Kerala following its release in around 175 screens due to demand, despite several districts being battered by torrential rains.

NS Rajkumar, known for producing over 17 films in Kannada and distributing more than 60 titles across South Indian languages, had recently acquired the Tamil remake rights of Su From So at a record price.
