The makers of Main Vaapas Aaunga released their new single, titled ‘Maskara’ on Tuesday. Starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina in the lead cast, the period-romance has music by AR Rahman.

Penned by Irshad Kamil, ‘Maskara’ is a catchy and playful number that captures the budding and flirtatious romance between the two protagonists in a light-hearted yet heartfelt manner. There is an interesting blend of musical style with a slight western touch on arrangement and rendering levels, while keeping the 'Punjabi' element alive. Nilanjana Ghosh Dastidar is the female vocalist, while Vedang Raina has doubled up as a playback singer for this playful number.

The music video for ‘Maskara’ also establishes Naseeruddin Shah’s character look, who plays an ageing man reminiscing his adolescence. Meanwhile, by the looks of it, Diljit Dosanjh plays a performance artist, struggling to find his footing.

This is the second single to be released by the makers, after 'Kya Kamaal Hai.'

Main Vaapas Aaunga is the fifth collaboration between Imtiaz Ali and AR Rahman, after Rockstar (2011), Highway (2014), Tamasha (2015) and Amar Singh Chamkila (2024). In the technical team, the film has Aarti Bajaj as the editor, Sylvester Fonseca as the cinematographer and Suman Roy Mahapatra as the production designer. Imtiaz shares writing credits with Nayanika Mahtani.

Produced by Sameer Nair, Deepak Segal, Window Seat Films, Mohit Choudhary, and Shibhasish Sarkar, Main Vaapas Aaunga is set for a theatrical release on June 12.
