The official Wikipedia page of Dhurandhar: The Revenge states that it is a propaganda film. The Aditya Dhar directorial, headlined by Ranveer Singh is described as a “spy action thriller propaganda film.” This development comes at a time when the film, which is inching close to Rs 800 crore at the worldwide box office, has become a topic of debate and discussion on social media over its pro-establishment stance and its portrayal of the 2016 demonetisation.
Although most Wikipedia articles can be edited by users, the Dhurandhar 2 page has been locked by Wikipedia and can be only edited by administrators owing to “editing disputes.” Wikipedia describes a propaganda film as movies that "spread and promote certain ideas that are usually religious, political, or cultural in nature...made with the intent that the viewer will adopt the position promoted by the propagator and eventually take action towards making those ideas widely accepted."
The first part of the film, however, is plainly described on Wikipedia as a spy action thriller.
While many viewers have praised the film, others have called it propaganda. In the film industry itself while people like Allu Arjun, Anupam Kher, Nagarjuna, Rishab Shetty, Ayushmann Khurrana and Anupam Kher have lauded the film over Ranveer’s acting and Aditya’s direction, actor Prakash Raj has taken a dig at the film while musician Vishal Dadlani took to social media to say that the film should be “watched for fun” but people “should get their information from better sources.” He also raised points as to why demonetisation, contrary to how it is shown in the film, was a failure.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge also stars Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun.
Our review of the film read: “Dhurandhar: The Revenge is mythmaking at its cool, suave, stylish and high-octane best. If its filmmaking is arresting, its propaganda is even more unsubtle.”
