An urgent plea has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the release of the film Dhurandhar The Revenge in Tamil Nadu, as per reports. An advocate reportedly made an oral mention to Madras High Court Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan regarding the film's release in Tamil Nadu.

The advocate is said to have argued that the film should be banned in Tamil Nadu amidst the model code of conduct, as it revolves around political issues. The state is set to see an Assembly election in exactly a month. The Chief Justice bench has directed the petitioner to formally file a writ petition and then make a mention for an urgent hearing.

Interestingly, Vijay's Jana Nayagan has been withheld from being censored by the CBFC and has been sent to the Election Commission of India, citing the model code of conduct as a reason. The CBFC said that the election commission has to assess the film's political content, as the elections are due in a month.

Set against the gritty backdrop of Lyari in Karachi—an area historically associated with gang conflicts—the Dhurandhar franchise blends fictional storytelling with real-world events such as the Kandahar hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
