The teaser of Mirzapur: The Movie was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. The film, based on the characters from the acclaimed series Mirzapur (2018), has been written by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh, who also created the show.

The teaser states that the film is set in 2018, before the events of the subsequent seasons of the series. Pankaj Tripathi returns as Kaleen Bhaiya, the criminal kingpin of Mirzapur, so does his volatile son Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu). Ali Fazal also reprises his role of Guddu Pandit coveting the throne of Mirzapur. Guddu, however, is joined by a new partner, played by Jitendra Kumar. In the show, Vikrant Massey essayed the role of Guddu’s younger brother Babloo Pandit, however, he seems to be missing here. Ravi Kishan also enters the franchise in the role of an antagonist who revels in sprinkling salt on wounds, quite literally. Abhishek Banerjee can also be seen slicing some throats as the dreadful "compounder."

The film also features Rasika Dugal as Kaleen Bhaiya’s unsatisfied wife Beena Tripathi. Shweta Tripathi also returns as Golu, the studious younger sister of Swaragini "Sweety" Gupta, the love-interest of Guddu, played by Shriya Pilgaonkar.

Sheeba Chaddha, Harshita Gaur and Rajesh Tailang will also reprise their roles. New entrants to the project also include Sonal Chauhan and Sushant Singh. The film will be set both in the gritty lanes of UP’s Mirzapur and the dunes of Rajasthan.

Mirzapur is a crime-thriller series created for Amazon Prime Video by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna. It follows the power tussle between Kaleen Bhaiya’s volatile son Munna Tripathi and the more deserving Guddu Pandit as they stake their claim for the throne of Mirzapur.

Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Movie is directed by Gurmeet Singh, written by Puneet Krishna, and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment. The film is co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani and is slated for a grand worldwide theatrical release on September 4.
