After taking a dull start last weekend, Main Vaapas Aaunga has sprung a surprise of sorts at the box office. The period-drama marks Imtiaz Ali’s first theatrical release in more than six years, since Love Aaj Kal (2020).
After showing slow but steady growth in its collections on weekdays, Main Vaapas Aaunga collected Rs 1.90 crores (nett) on Day 8, its second Friday. This marks a mere 14 percent drop from its Thursday collections, and is particularly impressive given the film is now allotted around 50 percent of its screens compared to week 1, due to the arrival of Cocktail 2 which is playing on more than 5000 screens now.
While the film is still far away from recovering its massive reported budget of Rs 70 crores from theatrical revenue, the positive word-of-mouth on social media has clearly helped the film hold its ground and stand a chance in week 2. There are high chances the film will end up grossing up more in Week 2 than week 1, where it garnered Rs. 12.25 crores nett.
Sharvari, Vedang Raina, Naseeruddin Shah and Diljit Dosanjh play the lead roles in Main Vaapas Aaunga. The film is produced by Birla Studios, Window Seat Films, and Applause Entertainment. AR Rahman has composed the music, while lyrics are by Irshad Kamil.
