Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has achieved yet another milestone by becoming the first South Asian artist to perform two consecutive sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden, during the New York leg of his AURA tour. The stadium has hosted performances by globally recognised popstars such as Elton John, Madonna, Elvis Presley, and the boy band BTS.
The singer was cheered on by the thousands of fans who packed the iconic venue over both nights. Diljit also shared glimpses from the concert on his Instagram post, expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support.
Diljit, in a recent interview with talk show host Jimmy Fallon, shared a personal story from tour. He spoke about the Komagata Maru incident of 1914, when people of the Sikh community faced racial discrimination and were denied entry into Vancouver and parts of the United Kingdom. He contrasted this history with his recent concert at Vancouver’s BC Place, where nearly 55,000 fans from around the world gathered to celebrate Punjabi music.
The Madison Square Garden concert highlights Diljit’s growing international appeal and the expanding global reach of Punjabi music. From Coachella to major arenas, the singer has steadily built a worldwide fanbase that extends far beyond the Indian diaspora.
Diljit Dosanjh is set to return on stage on May 31 at Rogers Centre Stadium in Toronto, Canada.
