Academy Award-winning composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman are collaborating on the music for director Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, among others. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con event, Zimmer spoke about the highly-anticipated project.

Introducing himself to the Comic-Con audience, Zimmer said that Rahman is "a genius" and his "really dear friend". The legendary composer also shared that he is embarking on an unprecedented journey with Rahman for the film, based on the epic in Indian mythology.

Hans Zimmer is popular also among Indian audiences thanks to his work in films such as The Lion King, Gladiator, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Batman films with Christopher Nolan, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, the Dune films with Denis Villeneuve, Top Gun: Maverick, and F1, among others. Ramayana marks Hans Zimmer's debut in Indian cinema.

Zimmer acknowledged the fact that it is a significant project in his career also because it gives him the opportunity to work with someone in an entirely different industry who hails from a different cultural backdrop. Speaking about what it is like to collaborate with Rahman on the project, he said pointing to his fellow Oscar-winning composer, "I think it's really interesting that I, as a European, get to immerse myself and listen to this man tell me about the Gods."

Zimmer added, "This is where I think it is very important that AR and I are working together because music brings people together. So to be able to make music with him, that is a gift from God. It really is."

Referring to the origins of Ramayana, the music director shared, "We have something that is thousands of years old that reminds us of our moral duty, that reminds us of who we are, and that reminds us that we need to be at our very best."
