During an earlier public appearance in late December 2025, Karan Johar had profusely praised Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, praising it for its lack of self-awareness and filmmaking. However, the filmmaker hadn’t commented on the film’s police then. During a recent interview, Karan addressed the subject finally, adding that he was not offended by the politics of the film.
While interacting with team India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) for their YouTube channel, Karan said he ‘unabashedly, unapologetically, and absolutely, outstandingly loved Dhurandhar.’ He also clarified that he wasn’t offended by the politics of the film, adding, “I know where it was heading. I know some people could agree or disagree and that should be cinema. I was not at all offended with any ideological issue in the film. I walked out feeling it was a nuanced film. I loved that the gaze was more internal and it was for speaking about politics in its own way.”
Further praising the filmmaking craft in Dhurandhar, Karan said, “I loved the storytelling. I loved the way he divided it into chapters. I watched it for the craft, for the cinema aspect of it and I absolutely loved it, and I felt like Aditya Dhar has emerged as a strong unique voice.” He also mentioned, “
Earlier, at the book launch of Anupama Chopra’s Dining with Stars, Karan had stated, “What I loved about Dhurandhar was that I didn't feel that the director was self-aware. I felt like he wasn't trying to show off his craft, and yet he was seamlessly telling you the story. I felt it was beautifully shot without self-awareness. It made me question my ability as a filmmaker, and that's always a good thing for me."
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar is slowly inching towards the 1000 crore mark (gross) at domestic box office. Currently in its 7th week, the film has already earned nearly Rs 1300 crores worldwide, according to a report from Sacnilk.com.
