Kriti Sanon, who was last seen in Cocktail 2, recently received a lot of criticism for one of her commercials, for Giva jewellery brand, created for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The Cocktail 2 actor was criticised for her allegedly immodest clothing. However, in a recent social media post, Kriti has responded to the criticism.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Kriti penned, “The essence of festivals is not in the clothes you wear, it is in the emotions and meaning you hold for the traditions. Rakshabandhan is a bond of protection. My sister and I tie rakhi to each other. We know we can protect each other no less than a brother would have. We pray for each other's health, happiness & long life. And for us, this prayer and promise extends to our dogs too! Afterall, they are family!”

Further defending her choice of attire in the commercial, Kriti wrote, “Also, when will we stop telling women what to wear?? Ethnic fashion has evolved over the years, but still a woman's respect for her culture is measured with just her clothes!! Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!”

This post also comes in the light of the said commercial receiving criticism from many notable figures like Kangana Ranaut. Without naming Kriti or the jewellery brand, Kangana had penned in her Instagram stories, “From all the options that are available to us today why would you tie your brother a Rakhi in your bikini/ undergarments? Where are all your styling options? Ha ha the advert looks intentionally creepy!”

Among other reasons, the ad was also criticised for allegedly trivialising the essence of a festival like Rakhi, by incorporating a visual where Kriti ties rakhi to a dog.

On a professional front, Kriti’s upcoming films include Bhediya 2 and No Entry 2. Cocktail 2 too recently had its OTT premiere.
