After its theatrical release, director Homi Adajania's film Cocktail 2 is set for its digital premiere. The film is listed as "coming on Friday" on Netflix. Thus, it is expected to drop on the streamer on August 14, Friday. A spiritual successor to Homi Adajania's own 2012 film Cocktail, it stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles.
Longtime partners Kunal (Shahid Kapoor) and Diya (Rashmika Mandanna) question how much they love and how committed they are to each other when the couple meets Diya's friend Ally (Kriti Sanon) during their Sicily vacation.
Cocktail 2 is written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain. The film also stars Mark Bennington, Tiku Talsania, Suparna Marwah, Neelu Kohli, Kannan Arunachalam, and Suparna Marwah, among others.
The spiritual sequel to Cocktail hit theatres on June 19, Friday. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics at the time of its release. However, it still managed to gross around 150 crore from theatres worldwide, according to reports. Reportedly, it has an approximate budget of 150 crore. The film is regarded as a moderate commercial success.
In our review, BH Harsh wrote, "The film has the desperation of branding itself as a sequel to Cocktail, but the provocative energy is not accompanied by the curiosity of the 2012 film to explore a genuinely messed up equation between three people."
Even before its release, the film faced some flak, especially after the makers dropped a remix of the 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' song from the 2012 film. Several viewers called out the makers for the use of an indoor setting and a plain background for the song, in addition to the choreography that they found more apt for short-form content on social media.
