The trailer of Manav Kaul’s upcoming supernatural-thriller, Baramulla, was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. Directed by Aditya Jambhale of Article 370 (2024) fame, the film also stars Bhasha Sumbli, Arista Mehta and Rohaan Singh in pivotal roles.
The trailer opens with a magic show where a kid disappears. A no-nonsense cop DSP Ridwaan Shafi Sayyid (Manav) is called to Baramulla to investigate. Ridwaan finds himself navigating a case entangled in the valley’s socio-political unrest and long-buried secrets. As he settles in the town with his wife, Gulnaar (Bhasha), and their children, Noorie (Arista) and Ayaan (Rohaan), strange occurrences begin to unfold at home. Gulnaar senses an eerie presence from smelling a non-existent dog to hearing creaky footsteps in the middle of the night. The trailer features some spooky visuals as more kids disappear while violence erupts in the town.
Speaking about the film, Manav said in a statement, “The trailer captures the mystique and stillness that defines Baramulla. It’s not loud horror, it’s the kind that creeps up on you, where silence feels heavier than sound. Aditya has built a world that feels eerily real, and I think audiences will sense that the valley itself is alive in this story. I have always felt a calling to my land, my words, my books have always expressed my love for the home that was.”
He added, “Being a Kashmiri from Baramulla itself, the script felt like a sign from the universe to tell the stories of the valley with honesty, sincerity, and of course all our love. With Netflix, Jio Studios, and B62 Studios coming together, this world has been brought to life with such authenticity and vision. I believe this story will stay with audiences long after the credits roll, making them question what’s real and what isn’t.”
Aditya added, “Collaborating with Netflix, along with Jio Studios and B62 Studios, with producers Aditya Dhar, Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Deshpande, allowed me to tell a very important story of our times, with the honesty, scale, and vision that pushes the boundaries of genre, just how the writers, Aditya Dhar, myself and Monal Thaakar had imagined on paper.”
With a story by Aditya Dhar and Aditya Jambhale, the film’s screenplay and dialogues are written by Aditya Jambhale and Monal Thaakar. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar, Baramulla is set to be released on Netflix on November 7.
