Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer Dhadak 2 has managed to amass only Rs 11.4 crore in its first weekend at the box office. The Shazia Iqbal directorial received applause from many in the industry but didn’t have much takers in theatres. The film, a love story which delves deep into caste discrimination, opened at Rs 3.5 crore on Friday, which marginally increased to Rs 3.75 crore the next day. On Sunday, the film’s collection stood at Rs 4.15 crore, as per Sacnilk.com.

Dhadak 2’s theatre occupancy on Day 3 was highest during evening shows at 48.32 per cent, followed by afternoon shows (38.19 per cent), night shows (32.32 per cent) and least in morning shows (13.78 per cent). The film had the highest takers in Bengaluru with an overall occupancy of 52.50 per cent, followed by Chennai (52 per cent). National Capital Region and Mumbai had an overall occupancy of 42 per cent and 31.5 per cent, respectively.

The Karan Johar production is facing stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s comedy Son of Sardaar 2, which has earned Rs 25.14 crore in its first weekend, more than double of Dhadak 2.

Dhadak 2 revolves around two star-crossed lovers, Neelesh and Vidhi, played by Siddhant and Triptii, hailing from different caste backgrounds.

The film is a sequel to 2018's film Dhadak, which marked the acting debut for its lead actors Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. It was directed by Shashank Khaitan.

Dhadak 2 was initially slated to hit the big screen in November 2024, but had several delays following the reported hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which were resolved only recently after the makers agreed to significant cuts and modifications to the film.
