Brad Pitt's F1 is coming back to IMAX screens in India due to popular demand, but that's not the only feat the makers and director Joseph Kosinski have to celebrate. Among other milestones, sports drama has crossed a new high of racing to $545.6 million worldwide, a month after its release in theatres. Apart from becoming Apple Studios' highest-grossing theatrical release of all time, F1 has also become a celebrated entry into the top-most position of Brad Pitt's career as it is now the actor's highest-grossing movie in his career.
According to Deadline, F1 has crossed the global revenue of Pitt's 2013's World War Z ($540.4 million) to achieve this landmark. Interestingly, it was only in one film, Deadpool 2, in which the actor appears briefly in a cameo role, that surpassed F1's box office. (The Ryan Reynold's film earned $785.9 million worldwide)
F1 follows a former Formula One driver Sonny Hayes (Pitt) who returns from retirement to mentor and team up with a rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). He goes head-to-head with him, and struggles to succeed. Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon also star in the film.
Many real-life Formula One drivers are also part of the film as themselves, including Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso, among others.
Our CE review of the film read, "F1 is a simple and neatly structured sports drama with familiar character tropes but it still adds enough freshness into the mix to make us care about what happens beyond the tracks."
Several Indian actors including Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar, Abishek Kumar and Prakash Varma, among others heaped praise on the film. In its theatrical run in India, F1 earned over Rs 90 crore, an impressive mark for the film.
