The trailer of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Bawaal was unveiled today. The film is directed by Dangal (2016) and Chhihhore (2019) fame Nitesh Tiwari.

The film’s trailer opens with Varun Dhawan, wearing shades and riding a Bullet through the streets of Lucknow. He is Ajay Dixit aka Ajju bhaiya, an ordinary albeit popular high school history teacher, who enjoys mini celebrityhood in his town, courtesy the fake image he has built about himself. He eyes Nisha (Janhvi Kapoor) for marriage (“If I get her, my image will be more ‘set’”). They get hitched and fly off to Europe for their honeymoon. There, their relationship suffers setbacks and we see Varun’s Ajay getting absorbed in the history of World War 2 and Hitler. “All of us are a bit like Hitler, What we have doesn’t satisfy us and we want what others have,” says Janhvi in a voiceover.

Talking about his character Varun said, “Despite his popularity, Ajju is constantly warring with circumstances beyond his control. A character so intricately woven but literally a ‘bawaal’ within and all around.”

Describing her character Nisha, Janhvi said, “In this unique romantic tale, Nisha is seemingly a simple girl with hopes and dreams. But she’s so endearing that she makes you want to feel every emotion that she is experiencing.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari added, “Bawaal is an Indian film which will appeal to audiences across the world. It will make you feel the jitters of nervousness, the joy of togetherness, the pain of separation, and so much more. Varun and Janhvi have brilliantly portrayed the roles of Ajju and Nisha.”
