The latest development about the project is that its release has been pushed from September 11 to October 16, according to multiple reports. Sense and Sensibility follows the Dashwoods in England of the Georgian era. After the passing of the family patriarch, his second spouse and her daughters navigate a difficult monetary situation as they are forced to move away from their estate to a small cottage. The novel has multiple adaptations, including a 1995 film of the same title, featuring Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant, and 2000's Kandukondain kandukondain, starring Ajith Kumar, Mammootty, Tabu, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Reportedly, the film stars Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood, Esmé Creed-Miles as Elinor's sibling Marianne, Caitríona Balfe as their mother, Frank Dillane and Herbert Nordrum as Marianne's lovers, John Willoughby, and George MacKay as Elinor's love interest. The cast also includes Fiona Shaw and Bodhi Rae Breathnach.

The movie is produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films, alongside Jo Wallett for Kiddo Films and India Flint under the November Pictures banner. It reunites Working Title Films with distributor Focus Features after their collaboration on 2017's Darkest Hour. They also collaborated on the 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
