Actor Milly Alcock is gearing up for the release of her superhero film Supergirl, which is slated for a June 26 release in theatres. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film marks the second major role in Alcock's career. She is best known for playing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel.
Recently, Alcock spoke about her character in the film in a conversation on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the interview, Jimmy Fallon asked Alcock about how she ended up having the superhero landing pose for her titular character in the upcoming film. "I never make that pose in the film. Spoiler. Sorry," the actor said before revealing the story behind it. She said that it was the "standby stills photographer" for her series Sirens who suggested the squirrels-like landing pose for Supergirl.
Recalling the conversation with the photographer, Alcock said, "'Milly what's going to be your pose?' And I was like, 'I don't know.' She was like, 'Your landing pose should be the way that squirrels land.'"
While Alcock did not understand exactly what her Sirens photographer meant, the actor realised its nuance when she searched "how squirrels land" on Google. "And it is exactly the same — all day, every day," Alcock said before Fallon juxtaposed images of the animal and the character's superhero landing. Her story brought big laughs and cheers among the audience.
Often described as a "superhero landing," squirrels twist mid-air to position their feet and land with a wide, splayed crouch while outstretching paws and bending legs to absorb the shock. Essentially, it is similar to how the superhero lands in the film. Fallon asked "I never knew squirrels land like that. Are you sure?" In response, Alcock said an affirmative 'Yes'.
