We had previously reported about filmmaker McG, known for Charlie's Angels and Terminator: Salvation, uniting with Kevin Hart for an upcoming high-concept action-comedy from Netflix. The latest update is that Man of Steel star Henry Cavill has joined the cast.
The yet-to-be-titled film is based on a short story by Sean Lewis. According to the makers, it follows two rival spies who meet in a Lamaze class, where their wives instantly become friends. Soon, their double lives collide in hilarious ways and are forced to forge a reluctant relationship as they journey towards fatherhood.
Both Cavill and Hart will be playing the spies. Details on the other members of the cast have been kept under wraps.
The film, which will be written by Adam and Aaron Nee along with Jonathan Tropper, is produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Emily Morris for 21 Laps, the banner behind Stranger Things. They are joined by Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey and Patrick Gooing for Maximum Effort, and Hart, Luke Kelly-Clyne, and Bryan Smiley's Hartbeat. One of the notable works of the writer-duo is Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum's The Lost City, and they have also worked on the Masters of the Universe film which recently released in theatres.
It is to be noted that McG's last five films: The Babysitter (2017), Rim of the World (2019), The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020), Family Switch (2023) and Uglies (2024), were made for Netflix.
Kevin Hart last starred in Borderlands (2024) and will next be seen in Jumanji: Open World and 72 Hours. Following his appearances in films such as Deadpool & Wolverine and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill can be currently seen sharing screen space with Jake Gyllenhaal in Ritchie’s action thriller In the Grey. He will next return alongside Millie Bobby Brown in Netflix's Enola Holmes 3, which releases on July 1. After that, he is set to lead two upcoming Amazon MGM projects: a Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski and Voltron, helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber.
