Even as fans eagerly await Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Infinity War had a special screening at SXSW 2026. Following the premiere, filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo addressed the gathering, who were surprised by Robert Downey Jr, who made an entrance with a joke about his most famous character, Iron Man.
Dipping his toes in nostalgia and a bit of tragedy, Downey Jr quipped, “Hi, I used to play Tony [Stark], and then you lost me right after this one." Further, the actor took time to explain how Doomsday comes as a film that restarts the legacy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rather than as an attempt to top their previous blockbusters, Infinity War or Endgame.
Assuring that Marvel is going to "try to earn your trust", with Doomsday, he explained as per a report on ComicBookMovie, "We can't beat it, we can't stand on the shoulders of these giants of Infinity War and Endgame, so we're literally zeroing out the board, and we're gonna try to earn your trust and respect all over again, and with the likes of these fellows, I think we got a pretty good shot."
And when he was asked the million-dollar question—who is stronger, Thanos or Doctor Doom?—he didn't bat an eyelid before denouncing Doctor Doom to be the more evil of them all. Doctor Victor Von Doom's powers are more psychological in nature when compared to Thanos's adrenaline-pumping and Infinity Gauntlet-like artefact-dependent powers. So Doom is expected to have the best of both advanced sci-fi and ancient sorcery worlds.
As per the original Marvel comics, Doom has been shown to be more powerful than just another cosmic warlord, defeating gods, stealing powers off cosmic entities, and delivering absolute brilliance with magic.
With the Russo Brothers at the helm, Avengers: Doomsday brings back yesteryear heroes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Ian McKellen, and Robert. The film brings together all the major stars and Marvel heroes, including the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts. The film is gearing up to open in theatres on December 18.
