Now a ruthless Emperor, Paul must face the consequences of his reign as old allies return, terrifying new threats emerge, and betrayal lurks in every shadow. Haunted by visions of Imperial collapse and the reappearance of his long-lost love, Paul is drawn into a sweeping conspiracy, with Chani at the heart of its unfolding mystery. As rebellion brews and enemies close in, Paul must confront the true cost of power and the fate of those he loves the most."
Dune: Part Three is written by Denis Villeneuve and Brian K Vaughan, who adapt Frank Herbert's Dune: Messiah, which was published in 1969. Linus Sandgren is serving as the cinematographer, taking over from Greig Fraser. Two time Oscar winner, Hans Zimmer returns to compose music for the film. Dune: Part Three is described as an "epic conclusion" of the saga although Frank Herbert wrote six books before he died, but with Villeneuve making the much-awaited James Bond movie for his next, another part for Dune is unlikely.
Apart from the two Dune films, the makers had also released Dune: Prophecy, released in 2024 which is a prequel to the Denis Villeneuve films, taking place approximately 10,000 years earlier. The series has been renewed for season 2.
Dune: Part Three is slated for a December 18 release in theatres.
