Director Justine Triet, known for her critically acclaimed French whodunnit Anatomy of a Fall, is set to make her English debut with a thriller titled Fonda, according to Deadline. The film stars Mia Goth, Andrew Scott, Frank Dillane, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett in key roles. Academy Award winning actor Allison Janney is also in negotiations for an important role in the film with an ensemble cast. Triet is set to direct the film from her own screenplay.

Fonda brings Triet back together with producers Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion after Anatomy of a Fall, which earned five Academy Award nominations in 2024, including a win in the Best Original Screenplay category. According to Deadline, Goth landed the film in a lead role after she succeeded in impressing Triet, despite her being eyed initially for an important supporting character. The makers are looking for further cast members, with an eye on starting production in the summer.

According to the official plotline, the film is set against a seemingly pleasant and peaceful backdrop and delves deep into "the shifting limits of a sound mind, as grief and obsession take hold".

There has been much interest for Triet's next film after 2023's whodunnit, which also earned Oscar nominations for Sandra Hüller for Best Actor, for Triet in the Directing category, for editor Laurent Sénéchal, and for Best Picture. Reportedly, many big names from Hollywood have been wanting to collaborate with Triet on her next project, including Steven Spielberg. A potential project for Triet with Spileberg was one based on Daniel Clowes’ novel Monica. However, she has now been attached to direct Fonda, which according to its distributor mk2 Films is an intelligent thriller.

Mia Goth's upcoming projects include a role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, whereas Andrew Scott's next films are A Place in Hell and Elsinore.
