DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has firmly denied speculation that a third instalment in The Batman franchise is being accelerated to avoid clashing with another DC project.

Rumours recently surfaced claiming that DC Studios, led by Gunn and Peter Safran, intended to speed up The Batman – Part 3, starring Robert Pattinson, so that it would not overlap with the upcoming Batman and Robin film The Brave and the Bold.

Addressing the chatter on Threads, Gunn dismissed the claim outright. “I don't know what that is, but I'm not fast-tracking anything other than our scripts currently getting ready to go into production,” he wrote.

When told that writer and social media personality @DanielRPK had reportedly been informed about such plans, Gunn doubled down. “That's incorrect. Well, I mean, I don't know if it's incorrect that DPK was told that, but the information is incorrect,” he clarified.

Meanwhile, The Batman – Part II remains in pre-production, with filmmaker Matt Reeves returning to helm the sequel. Pattinson is set to reprise his role as the Dark Knight in what is being described as a darker continuation of the 2022 film.

Colin Farrell, who portrayed The Penguin in the first instalment, recently hinted at the tone of the sequel while acknowledging his reduced screen time. “I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m OK with that,” he said, adding that he has read the script in full. Without revealing details, Farrell described the sequel as “deeper, scarier; the stakes are bigger.”
