With just four months left for the worldwide release of Marvel's yet another event film, Avengers: Doomsday, anticipation for the film is only increasing with every passing day. Marvel has already released an essential watchlist of MCU films to catch before booking tickets for the upcoming Avengers film.

Meanwhile, the film is constantly making headlines because of events, interviews, and the like. While Robert Downey Jr, who returns to the MCU as Dr Doom, recently made an appearance alongside Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell in Disney's fan event, D23, he also spoke to Good Morning America about his role in the film and why he prefers playing the villain over the ever-celebrated superhero, Iron Man.

Speaking about his return to Marvel films after 7 years, but this time as a villain, he said, “It was really weird being the guy—everyone else is hanging out, they’re the good heroes, and I’m [in] this mask and this hood. I’m like, 'They’re all on one side of the camera, and I guess they’re all mad at me or something.”

Further, Downey Jr explained why he preferred playing Dr Doom more. “I will say Doom, for now, because I got to really observe what I’ve been missing the whole time, just everybody else. Because you don’t say yes because you can; it has to feel right. And I think that in Doomsday, what happens to this key relationship is so exciting, unexpected, and beautiful."

Helmed by the Russo brothers, Avengers: Doomsday brings together the Wakandans, Talokians, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Thor, Hulk and Captain America from the original Avengers.

The cast also includes Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, with Tenoch Huerta Mejia.

Avengers: Doomsday is the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is set to be released on December 17, 2027.
