The upcoming epic historical drama The Uprising, starring Andrew Garfield in the lead, is set for its India release on September 11. Set in 14th-century England, the events of the film follow the socio-economic and political tensions caused by the Black Death. Also contributing to the unrest is London's instability owing to the losses incurred in the Hundred Years' War against France. Garfield is set to play a humble farmer who is thrust into the heart of a revolution after the injustices meted out to his people. From obscurity, he rises to become a symbol of hope against the autocratic rulers.
Garfield is joined by Jamie Bell, Thomasin McKenzie, Katherine Waterston, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Jonny Lee Miller, and Woody Norman. The film is directed by Paul Greengrass, who is known for his Bourne films. He last directed the 2025 film The Lost Bus.
Garfield, meanwhile, was last seen in The Magic Faraway Tree. While the film has been released in the UK, it is yet to get a worldwide release. In addition to The Uprising, he also has Luca Guadagnino's Artificial, in which he plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
