Recently, we reported about Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett starring in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel Verity. Earlier this Tuesday, Amazon MGM Studios dropped an official trailer for the film. The Verity trailer hints at an erotic psychological thriller. It is directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, which is based on Hoover's eponymous novel.

The story follows a man (Hartnett) who ropes in a novelist (Johnson) to help his wife (Hathaway) complete her autobiography, as she suffers from a peculiar health condition stemming from an accident. When Johnson's character tells him that even if she completes the novel, readers would be able to tell that it has writing by someone other than his wife. However, he still encourages her to take on the task. Soon, it leads her to experience dark and twisted secrets as she lives with the couple as part of her job.

"A writer’s words should be honest, bloody, and a little bit terrifying," reads the tagline. The trailer ends with Hathaway's character promising much darkness in the story. "This is your final warning: only darkness ahead," she can be seen saying in the trailer.

Verity brings director Michael Showalter and Anne Hathaway back together after their collaboration on The Idea of You, another adaptation of a popular novel that is streaming on Prime Video. The film also stars Ismael Cruz Cordóva, Brady Wagner, KK Moggie, Michael Abbott Jr, and Irina Dvorovenko.

Verity is the latest offering in a lineup of films based on Colleen Hoover novels, which hit theatres in the recent past that include It Ends with Us (2024), Regretting You (2025), and Reminders of Him (2026). The film is slated for an October 02 release in theatres. After its theatrical release, it is expected to become available on the streaming platform, Prime Video.
