It has been speculated that the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power would release on Prime Video in 2027, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming season might release later this year itself. The series is based on the universe established in JRR Tolkien's novel series. The news about the earlier-than-expected release of The Rings of Power season 3 is sure to excite legions of Tolkien fans around the world. It comes not long after Prime Video renewed the series for a third season this February.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been quite successful for Prime Video, having amassed about 170 million audiences across the world. Hailing from executive producers and showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne, The Rings of Power season 3 will have a major time leap in terms of its story arc.

The official logline reads thus: "Jumping forward several years from the events of season two, season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last."

The series stars Charlie Vickers in the role of Sauron, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, and Morfydd Clark as Galadriel. The recent cast additions include Jamie Campbell Bower of Stranger Things fame, Eddie Marsan of Ray Donovan, Andrew Richardson, Adam Young, and Zubin Varla.

The finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 dropped on Prime Video in 2024 October, which means that the time gap between its two seasons is likely to be two years again. Earlier, the first season debuted on the streamer in 2022 September.
