Richard Gadd and Jamie Bell are teethering on teetering on the edge of resorting to violance and uprooting their lives in the first trailer of Half Man, directed by Gadd (Baby Reindeer, Against The Law).
HBO's new limited series sees Gadd and Bell as brothers Niall and Ruben, who are teased and taunted throughout their childhood. Growing up with unhealed wounds, the two become estranged after certain traumatic events. But when Niall shows up at Ruben's wedding 30 years later, their lives shift completely.
According to the makers, the six-episode show "explores brotherhood, violence, and the intense fragility of male relationships" by capturing 30 years of their lives.
The official plotline reads: "When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives. Spanning almost forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults — with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way. It will capture the wild energy of a changing city — a changing world, even — and try to get to the bottom of the difficult question… What does it mean to be a man?"
Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell play Niall and Ruben in their formative years. Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Amy Manson, Anjli Mohindra, Tim Downie, Tom Andrews, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Sandy Batchelor, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, and newcomers Charlotte Blackwood, Calum Manchip and Kate Robson-Stuart are also part of the cast.
Half Man is scheduled for release on April 23 on HBO and HBO Max.
