Cameron Diaz-led Netflix action comedy, Bad Day, has added Modern Family fame Ed O'Neill, Peacemaker actor Danielle Brooks and Steve Higgins' son John Higgins to the cast. The film is set to be directed by Jake Szymanski, with a script from Laura Solon.

Bad Day revolves around a single mother (Diaz) on the worst day of her life, struggling to keep up a small promise she made to her daughter. The project is likened to the 1993 film Falling Down, where Michael Douglas played a man reaching his breaking point as he tries to get to his daughter's birthday party. This new iteration puts a humorous spin on the original drama's tense, relatable premise.

The protagonist's gruff father-in-law, who purportedly makes everybody's life miserable, will be portrayed by O'Neill. Brooks and Higgins will play NYPD detectives and cop partners who try to track down the mother. Under the Good One Productions banner, Beau Bauman, who previously backed Back in Action, is producing Bad Day. Solon and Mark Moran serve as executive producers.

O'Neill, whose claim to fame is his performance as Jay Pritchett in Modern Family, was last seen in the miniseries Clipped as Donald Sterling, the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. Coming up, he has Ryan Murphy's All's Fair, in which he will be seen portraying a former powerful Hollywood studio head and Glenn Close's husband. The series will premiere in November on Hulu.

Known for Orange is the New Black, Danielle Brooks can currently be seen as Leota Adebayo, the daughter of the scheming Amanda Waller, in DC Studios' Peacemaker. She earned an Academy Award nomination for her stint in The Color Purple and also recently appeared in A Minecraft Movie.

As a member of Please Don't Destroy, Higgins spent several years writing and producing digital shorts for Saturday Night Live. However, he made headlines in September when it was announced he wouldn't be returning for the show's 50th season. Higgins also appeared in A Man Called Otto, starring Tom Hanks.
