Tributes have been pouring in for the late Robert Redford, a legendary actor who made his debut in the 1960s and worked late into his career. Demi Moore shared a clip from her 1993 film Indecent Proposal co-starring Redford. In the caption, Moore wrote, "The world has lost an incredible actor, director, husband, father, friend... Robert's legacy will live on forever in so many ways and I will carry the many memories we share close to my heart. What I would do for just one more dance."
In the clip, Redford's character asks Moore's character for "just one dance" before they perform a simple dance step by holding each other's hands.
On the other hand, Morgan Freeman shared a still from his film with Redford, titled An Unfinished Life. In his tribute to Redford, Freeman wrote, "There are certain people you know that you're going to click with. After working with Robert Redford on Brubaker in 1980, we instantly became friends. Working with him again in An Unfinished Life was a dream come true. Rest peacefully, my friend."
Redford also appeared in the MCU as Alexander Pierce, and he starred in the franchise alongside Samuel L Jackson. The Pulp Fiction actor shared a still from one of the MCU films also featuring Redford and wrote, "It was a dream come true to work on screen with Mr Redford. Sometimes your heroes don't disappoint & truly are as Great as you imagined."
Speaking of superhero cinema, DC Studios' head and filmmaker James Gunn paid a tribute to Redford while sharing his list of favourite Redford films. "I grew up with his movies: his quiet, unforced performances and ever-present grace. He was THE movie star, and will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Robert," wrote Gunn. The filmmaker then recommended some Redford starrers other than The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, including Three Days of the Condo, All the President's Men, The Natural, All Is Lost, Ordinary People, Brubaker, The Candidate and Captain America Winter Soldier, among others.
Sundance Film Festival, owned by the Redford-founded Sundance Film Institute, also paid a tribute to the late actor-filmmaker on X. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our founder and friend Robert Redford. Bob’s vision of a space and a platform for independent voices launched a movement that, over four decades later, has inspired generations of artists and redefined cinema in the US and around the world," wrote Sundance Film Festival in an X post. The post further added, "Beyond his enormous contributions to culture at large, we will miss his generosity, clarity of purpose, curiosity, rebellious spirit, and his love for the creative process. We are humbled to be among the stewards of his remarkable legacy, which will continue to guide the Institute in perpetuity."
