Legendary Hollywood actor-director Robert Redford passed away at the age of 89 on Tuesday evening. As the news of his death came out, Hollywood celebrities mourned the loss by taking to social media. Along with them, Bollywood actors also paid tributes to the star, known for films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting and Ordinary People, among others.

Priyanka Chopra reacted to the news and shared Robert’s photo on her Instagram story, writing, “Icon”, with a sad and hand-folded emoji.

Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a quote from Robert on her Instagram story. She wrote, ‘Storytelling is important. Part of human continuity’ – Robert Redford.” She also shared a picture of the actor on Instagram Story and wrote, “In Power Legend.”

Anil Kapoor wrote a short note on X as he shared a series of photos of the actor-director. Anil said, “Rest in peace, Robert Redford. From Barefoot in the Park to The Great Gatsby, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting and all the films in between–he was one of the most beautiful, captivating men ever. His personality, that legendary jawline, that smile… beyond compare.”

Anil added, “But Robert Redford’s legacy is so much more than his face. He acted, directed, inspired—and created the Sundance Festival, giving countless filmmakers their first chance to shine. His contribution to cinema is etched in history and inimitable. You may be gone, Robert, but you’ll always live on—through your films, your artistry, your spirit. I had always hoped that we'd meet some day, but until our paths cross in the afterlife, thank you for everything!”

Anurag Kashyap and Nargis Fakhri took to their social media to post photos of Robert, mourning the loss.

Robert was last seen in Avengers: Endgame (2019) in which he reprised his role as Secretary Alexander Pierce and joined several other Marvel vets such as Michael Douglas and Tilda Swinton. He made his feature film debut in the 1962 drama War Hunt, appearing alongside another young actor, Sydney Pollack, who would go on to direct Robert in seven films, including The Electric Horseman and the Academy Award-winning Out of Africa.

Robert's directorial debut was the family drama Ordinary People (1980), which won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. He later directed eight feature films, including  The Milagro Beanfield War (1984), the period drama A River Runs Through It (1992), the historical drama Quiz Show (1994), the neo-western The Horse Whisperer (1998), and the sports fantasy The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000).
